ESG Policy and Good Practices in China 2022
2022 ESG Policy and Good Practices in China While drawing on international law, the Guidance is formed in a specifically Chinese context and references compliance with existing domestic Chinese regulation in a number of locations. While the Guidance is non-binding, its Chinese-specific focus is likely to prove appealing to companies that operate solely within the Chinese market and consider the existing, globally-focused ESG standards as inappropriate for their reporting purposes. For multinational companies operating in China, the level of traction the Guidance gains will be important, as such multinational companies will likely face competing pressures from external investors to disclose against internationally recognised frameworks. The ESG China Awards is an awards programme recognising and promoting excellence from companies that have made a positive ESG impact in China. The Awards are open to both local and international businesses that operate in China. The British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai initiated the ESG China Awards and is the organiser of the 2022 Awards, partnering with both AustCham Shanghai and CanCham Shanghai. The ESG China Awards will be held every two years in Shanghai. ESG has been in the past two years, and will continue to be, one of our Chamber’s key areas moving forward to support our members and the wider business community. Through peer support and sharing of experience, knowledge and expertise, we aim to help develop an eco-system for ESG best practices in China and the global market.” China has been proactively promoting ESG and green finance development in recent years.
